Top Illustrator Resources

I've compiled this list of my top Adobe Illustrator resources which includes tutorial web sites, books and digital drawing tablets. If you feel I've overlooked a particular resource that you find valuable, let me know!

Web Tutorial Sites

Some great, distinctive free Illustrator tutorials on this site. There's a clear attention to detail in the work being featured and taught.

Layers Magazine
This magazine's website offers dozens of free, original Illustrator tutorials. Some written, some in video format.

layers studio
Offering up a handful of free, original Illustrator tutorials. Some good techniques featured.

Another site offering up free and original tutorials. Really nice stuff here.

Smashing Magazine
General web interest magazine with the occasional tip of the hat to Illustrator tutorials. Free and premium tutorials.

Vector Diary
A mix of original free and premium tutorials offered here on a pretty regular basis.

This site is currently on hiatus but you can explore the archives for original and still relevant Illustrator tutorials.

Tuts+ Illustration
Literally hundreds of original tutorials on this site. Great way to get inspiration and learn Illustrator. New content released on a weekly basis.

Illustrator Books

Adobe Master Class: Illustrator Inspiring artwork and tutorials by established and emerging artists
You'll find stunning Illustrator artwork in the pages of this book along with tutorials to recreate some of the elements in the artists' artwork.

The Adobe Illustrator WOW! Book For CS6 and CCs
I generally buy this book every other version as the contents are constantly updated.  Full-color pictures and easy-to-follow tutorials populate the book's pages.

Adobe Illustrator CC Classroom in a Book
Look to the experts from Adobe to help you learn Illustrator. I used this series of book to help me learn more of the ins and outs of Adobe Illustrator.

Digital Drawing Tablets

Wacom Bamboo Tablets
If you're just starting out with Illustrator (or Photoshop for that matter), look to the Bamboo series of digital tablets for affordable options.

Wacom Intuos Tablets
Got a little more scratch to spend on tablets with more features? The Intuous series may be a better option for your digital sketching needs. Comes bundled with illustration software such as Adobe Photoshop Elements and Autodesk Sketchbook Express.
